That´s a statement I get a lot.
And well, technically they are right. I do get to travel a lot. And for "free".
But, what´s in that travel?
There is a lot of time on a bus. Where I plan things, talk to the other coaches and players, and occasionally get some sleep.
And there is the hotels. A lot of hotels with different standards. Where I talk to the other coaches, players and plan things. And sleep.
And the rinks. A lot of different rinks with different standards. Where I execute the things I have planned. And talk to the other coaches and players. And hopefully not sleep.
On some rare occasions there is some spare time to explore a city. But usually not.
Since I don´t sleep much I either get to take a walk in the hotel area or get to take a long breakfast. Where I talk to the other coaches and players.
This is not a post bitching about what I do. I love it. I wouldn´t change it for the world.
And of course there is a lot of small things that I do that is not stated here. There is a lot of laughter on the road. A lot of good talks.
A game on the road is actually some time with less to do. I don´t have to care about the visiting team, since we are the visiting team. Less laundry. Less things to worry about.
But then again. The planning is at home. When you are 780 miles from home, you don´t wan´t to discover that you have forgotten anything.
But then again. Keep organized. Keep the things you need for the road in boxes. Keep a list on what go in what box. Check the boxes before you pack them.
I have packed for a lot of away games. I think that I have everything in my head. And I do. But if you have a list, and tick it off, you KNOW that everything is there.
